There is a post on Hovatek Forum that guides you thru the process of downloading the full ROM of your device without the need of being rooted. There are some generic devices bricking after sending an unsigned DA. Tools like SPFT uses a DA (for Download Agent) to communicate with the MediaTek bootloader, but the MediaTek bootloader has some configurable settings so that it only accepts DA signed by the manufacturer. For example, Amazon Fire devices refuse to communicate with these tools despite being MediaTek. Warning, in some very rare cases this doesn't work or could be dangerous.
